Post low-balling price increase schemes
- Offer 3-color printing and increase price if you need full-color printing. Also demand artwork change if you insist in having 3-color.
- Default lead-time is 15 ~ 20 days. Prices will increase substantially if you need 7 to 10 days turn around. Worse of all, they sometimes can't even keep the 15 ~ 20 days promise.
- Requires per color film charge. If you have a full-color artwork for CMYK, they will charge you $25 x 4 = $100 which is not included in the low price they advertise.
- If you need to put CSS copy protection to your DVD's, most replicator will require you to supply DLT tapes.
Smart Tips
- Remember paying least should not be your number one goal; rather, getting the best value should be. Disc replication is relative low cost compared with the other activities in your overall workflow. If you choose the wrong replicator all your previous good work will be trashed. Request your prospect replicator to send you samples. Only seeing is believing. Slogans and ads are cheap talks. Samples will let you distinguish best, good, mediocre, and poor quality products.
- Plan ahead! Shipping cost should not be underestimated. If you have a concert or event on a certain day, contact your replicator at least 20 days in advance. Ground shipping is much cheaper than express shipping. In the event that you miss the golden time frame to take advantage of ground shipping, consider your order partially shipped by express to make your urgent demand and the rest shipped by ground.
- Send two copies of your master disc to your replicator. You can lose two valuable days if the only master disc you send is damaged for whatever reasons; not to mention the extra overnight cost to re-send a replacement disc. Always send a back up disc as insurance for disc damage.
